There’s no doubt, this lady has a spectacular voice, and her recent debut album entitled ‘Our Version of Events’ embodies this right through to the 14th track , leaving you with a sense of empowerment and an urge to press ‘play’ once more.

The diverse soulful Scottish songbird has sang along side with the likes of Professor Green and even worked along side Susan Boyle! She has previously written for a number of artists, including Cher Lloyd, Cheryl Cole and Tinie Tempah, and had recognition from the one guy who ought to know a few things: Simon Cowell. Now she turns the writing to her own album, and I must say, there is a track for everyone.

Heaven’, Sande’s first single immediately reminded me of an early 90s track by Massive Attack, some compliment indeed, with a stunning moment of souring strings and a tripping, funky drum and bass beat, ahh a breath of fresh air! Reaching the right ear of the public, the track made it to number 2 on the UK Charts.

The whole album exudes a mixture of modern and old soulful sounds, which can be somewhat rare in todays’ charts. If you’re a fan of the more upbeat tempo tracks, look out for ‘Lifetime’, and a more grittier sound: ‘Next To Me’, with catchy lyrics are supported by a fearsome drum beat. For beautiful acoustic intros, ‘Breaking The Law’ and a personal favorite ‘Suitcase’ should not be ignored.

It’s made up of brilliant songwriting and epic songs, ‘Heaven’ and ‘Daddy’ being some. All different styles musically, for example ‘Where I Sleep’, with a sense of honesty and with lyrics many people could relate to. What she has clearly set out to do is create tracks on her album that will be songs that will last, and be classic through our generation, rather than sit and be transient in the charts.

It’s refreshing to have her around and I’ll be filing her somewhere near the front next to Katy B and DJ Fresh in my MP3 cabinet.
