I was lucky enough to get in tonight to a intimate acoustic Pete Doherty gig at London’s Nambucca. Announced on Saturday, it was a very last minute gig that we’ve come to expect from Doherty. The Libertines front man donned the usual acoustic guitar complete with sweaty hair and gold chain to play to a packed Nambucca crowd.
He played some new material, some which have not even been given a title as of yet. Of course thought these were mixed with trademark hits. Kicking off he night with Sheepskin Tearaway, he was later joined on stage by a number of old faces including Suzi Martin who joined in on songs such as F**k Forever and Bird Cage. Pete was also joined by Wolfman for Siberian Fur, Wolfman and of course the 2004 top ten hit For Lovers.
Old libertines hits were not left out as the crowd soaked up What a Waster and Can’t Stand Me Now - Unfortunately no Carl in sight! Doherty though, seems much more at home in the smaller venues where he learnt his trade, that the large festivals and theatres. He thrives on the intimacy of his fans and that really comes across tonight. Don’t stop!!
