Jack White has had an illustrious career – for 14 years the eccentric Detroit rocker was one half of the White Stripes with his sister/ex-wife/best friend? He was a founding member of The Raconteurs, before joining The Dead Weather. He’s written a jingle for Coca-Cola, provided the theme song, alongside Alicia Keys, for a James Bond movie – and now Jack White feels the time is right to showcase his solo efforts to the world.
White will put out his long awaited, much anticipated solo album, Blunderbuss on April 24th. Ahead of the album’s release, White says: “It’s an album I couldn’t have released until now. I’ve put off making records under my own name for a long time but these songs feel like they could only be presented under my name. These songs were written from scratch, had nothing to do with anyone or anything else but my own expression, my own colours on my own canvas.”
The intro to “Love Interruption” smacks of Dusty Springfield’s “Son of a Preacher Man”, but the similarities end there as White gives us a love song that only he could write. A love song with a twist – It’s the polar opposite of all the mushy, gushy love songs that we hear bleating on our radios day in day out. “I want love to roll me over slowly, stick a knife inside me and twist it all around” aren’t your generic love song lyrics but, somehow, White coupled with the soft harmonies of Ruby Amanfu, manages to make us feel all warm and tingly inside… (No, wait. It could just be a knife).
If you’re a fan of any of Jack White’s previous work, you’ll not be disappointed with “Love Interrupter”, and if this first offering from Blunderbuss is anything to go by, you will love the album too.
