Your guide to the best UK summer festivals


The weather is warming up and getting better, let’s face it, it can’t get any worst! So what better cure to those April (and May) Showers than the festival season! It’s no secret that this year, the festival industry is struggling. Just look at the cancellation of Sonisphere festival and factors such as 2012 being the year the UK hosts the Olympics. Despite this, there are still some amazing lineups to be seen this summer, so we have put together our guide to the 10 best British festivals to be at, this summer. These are in no particluar order and just our opinion!

Hop Farm Festival
Set in Paddock wood, Kent this festival has grown from strength to strength each year, especially considering it’s still a baby. Proud of not being corporate branded or sponsored, Hop Farm offers a legends lineup with Bob Dylan, The Stranglers, Peter Gabriel and Suede mixed with newer acts like Benjamin Francis Leftwich and My Morning Jacket. Also a UK festival debut from Damien Rice. A weekend will cost you £162 and the festival runs from 29th June – 1st July. Buy Hop Farm Tickets.

V Festival
Love it or hate it, you cannot argue with this years V lineup! They’ve pulled out all the stops in taking advantage of Glasto’s sabatical and pulled in the big names. Stone Roses, Noel Gallagher and his high flying birds, The Killers, Example, The Enemy…the list goes on. Only Day tickets left for this priced at £86. Buy V Festival tickets here. Play Fest
Play Fest is in it’s second year so this years lineup is some acheivment. The festival plays out at Eccles Hall Estate, Nr. Norwich, Norfolk. Legend Brit Poppers Ash, headline the Saturday along with The Pigeon Detectives and Reverend and the makers. Full Weekend Camping will cost you £80 and Day Tickets are priced at a very reasonable £35. It runs from  Friday 1st to Sunday 3rd June. A hidden gem we think! Buy Play Fest Tickets.

T in the park
The biggest festival in Scotland attracts around 85,000 music fans across seven main stages with huge camping areas! 2012 will be the nineteenth T in the Park at Balado and runs from Friday 6th to Sunday 8th July. The Cribs, The Stone Roses, The Maccabees, Miles Kane and The Vaccines are just some amongst a huge variety of acts. You’re only likely to get a Saturday or Sunday day ticket now priced at £77.50. Famed for it’s fun and fancy dress this years Bestival has a ‘Wildlife’ Theme. It’s held on the IOW at Robin Hill Country Park. This year Florence and the machine, New Order, Sigur Ross, Soulwax and Emeli Sande are all in the mix of artist for this ninth edition of the festival. Standon Calling
Standon Calling is set in the grounds of a 16th Century, Herts, Country house. A rich veign of artist history with acts going on to much bigger things. The festival is renowned for new music and this year is no different. Crazy P, Death in Vegas and CasioKids add to the eclective line-up for the weekend of Friday 3rd to Sunday 5th August 2012.  The 2012 festival theme is ‘Journey to the Ends of the Earth’. South West Four (SW4)
If dance is your thing then South West Four returns at it’s home of south london in Clapham Common on the Bank Holiday Weekend of Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th August 2012. Lineup includes Chase and Status, Roger Sanchez, Pete Tong and  Public Enemy amongst many. Day tickets are priced at £45, with the weekend ticket priced at £85. Buy SW4 Tickets.

Lovebox Weekender
Lovebox runs for three days across 10 stages at London’s Victoria Park. The Lovebox Weekender runs from Friday 15th to Sunday 17th June. This year marks 10 years of the festival so organisers have brought back some of the greatest acts from this time. Groove Armada, Maverick Sabre, The Rapture and Niki and the Dove appear. Isle Of Wight Festival
When we’re talking the most established festivals, Isle Of Wight tops the bill. This year it moves into the Glastonbury clendar slot of Friday 22nd until Sunday 24th June. Laid back festival goers, supprisingly hot summer weather and a great mix of rock and indie make this one of the UK’s most exciting festivals to be at. Tom Petty, Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, Biffy Clyro and The Charlatans all feature on this years bill. Dot to dot
The Dot To Dot Festival is held on Monday 4th June in a whole host of venues in and around Manchester. It is also on Sunday in Nottingham, and Saturday in Bristol. Similar to Camdens ‘Camden Crawl’ the festival showcases new bands and DJ’s. The Drums, All tthe young, pulled apart by horses and Willy Mason all play. Buy Dot to Dot Tickets.
